Adolescent

The world our children are growing up in is different than the world their parents grew up in. Amy has a friend who has described to her as “our kids are living in a world that is like swimming in toxic waters with sharks.” At LiveWell we understand the cultural dynamic children and teens are immersed in is intense and challenging at times for them to succeed.

  • Sessions focus on developmental stages paired with educational support for boundaries, using their voice, balance, and standing up for what is right .
  • One of the primary goals for this population at LiveWell is they would embrace who God has created them to be and dare to be themselves.
  • Equipping them with skills to effectively communicate with parents, guardians, and trusted friends such as coaches, teachers, or mentors.

Group

The group dynamic is where the vision for LiveWell originates! Groups are seen as a very powerful platform for three main functions for clients.

  • Clients are engaging with others, sharing their story, and able to activate the learned skills on the spot through interactions.
  • Group is an impactful way to experience counseling in a more affordable manner.
  • Groups provide comfort. As clients hear other members experiences, it naturally offers listeners with the relief that they are not the only ones to a hard story.

EMDR Trauma

Traumatic events can produce limitations in our daily lives with symptoms such as poor sleep, eating disorders, stress, trouble with relationships and connecting with others.

  • Trauma isn’t black and white and takes on many forms: abuse (physical, sexual, emotional or verbal), phobias, divorce, job loss, bullying, diagnosis of disease, loss of a loved one, survivors of natural disasters, any first responders, police officers, ambulance nurses, a personal crisis or tragedy, eating disorders, body image disorders, chronic pain, or anxiety.
  • Our EMDR trauma therapist is ready to help you heal. EDMR takes a trauma memory that’s stored in a dysfunctional part of the brain and desensitizes that memory or experience to eliminate symptoms that affect quality of life.

Pre-Marriage

Sessions for pre marriage counseling will include a similar framework of marital counseling sessions, and include specific topics for each person to express their ideas to cultivate unity. Some of these topics will include:

  • Learning self regulation for conflict and stress.
  • Finances and family dynamics.
  • Short and long term goals/vision for the marriage, and more.
  • This process is a six-week journey, unless the couple desires otherwise.

Family

Think of your family as a machine with moving and working parts, all doing a job no matter how big or small. The family is a system and there is a culture that resides in the family runs. The members of your family have learned how it works and what their role is, even if these are not discussed. This can be machine can be moving in a positive or negative direction. The goals for family counseling are:

  • To connect relationally and gain some understanding of one another.
  • Improve feelings of stability and balance.
  • Learn self-regulation, assisting parents in getting to a stable emotional place, in order to listen and learn of their children, so they can know how to best help them.

Body Image and Eating Disorders

Sessions to support a healthy, productive lifestyle and positive self-image. Many types of trauma can bring about eating disorders or unhealthy relationships with food.

  • We work through the client’s connection with food and develop a plan to move forward in a productive way – improving digestion, adding adequate nutrients, meal planning, grocery shopping, understanding hunger or emotional cues.
  • Mind, body, and spirit – healing is a lifelong journey, not a puzzle that can be pieced together.

Young Adult

As young adults begin to launch out of their home, into a new world whether it can bring adjustments necessary for support.

  • Acquire new skills or tools to accommodate a greater demand in academic, relationship, the workplace, and personal responsibility.
  • Work together to assist young adult clients to see their capability in embracing the new burden of becoming an adult.
  • Emotional self regulating skills and practical coaching to promote adjustment and stability.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve put together some commonly asked questions to give you more information about the way we do counseling and therapy in Amarillo, Texas. If you have a question that you can’t find the answer to, don’t hesitate to reach out to us by phone or email. We would love to answer any questions you have!

What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is an initial intake session that is about an hour. During this time, it’s like going to the doctor for the first time, when there are multiple topics discussed in order for our therapist to get the most information as possible to understand you and your life to the best of our ability. You can rest assured that during this time, I am interested to know what you see as the problem and your wanted goals for counseling. Together we will discuss length of counseling and get a good agreed upon plan, allotting plenty of time for your questions.

Most importantly, we desire for you to walk away after the first session and feel you were heard and understood by your counselor. It is also important that you feel your counselor is a good fit for you.

How many sessions will I need?

When you come into therapy we will discuss in the first session how many sessions you might need. Though the exact number is usually not known, especially at the outset, we will set some goals that can best help us assess the length of counseling. If there has been an issue present in your life for a long time you may need a considerable amount of time (several months to a year). Typically, if it is a new problem that has arisen, work can be accomplished in 8-12 sessions or less. I consider this to be a collaborative process and will want and value your input on this question.

How long are the sessions?

We offer 45-minute sessions, but you have the option to do longer sessions if you desire more intensive type work.

Do you integrate faith into counseling?

Faith is integrated into counseling when it is desired by the client. Though our therapists are Christians, we work with both Christians and non-Christians. Our role is not to impose our personal views on the client, but to help the client work through the issues they bring into counseling. We are comfortable and confident in working with whatever issues someone brings into counseling, regardless of their faith perspectives. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact your therapist.

Get Started

We serve all age ranges of clientele, 4 and up. Sessions are usually 45-50 minutes but can be scheduled longer if a more intensive approach is preferred by the client.
